MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!!! This says it just about right!!!!
Will we still be the Country of choice and still be Canada if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in Canada because it is the Country of Choice???
Think about it!
All we have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS?
I celebrate Christmas......but because it isn't celebrated by everyone ...we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings.
It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday. We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that. This says it all!
This is an editorial printed in a Toronto newspaper. He did quite a job, didn't he? Read on, please!
IMMIGRANTS, NOT Canadians MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Canadians. However...... the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Canada. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.
This idea of being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Canadians... we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH/FRENCH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!
"We Stand On Guard For Thee" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women....on Christian principles.....founded this nation..... and this is clearly documented.
It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home .........because God is part of our culture. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from.
This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. But once you are done complaining.......whining......and griping....... about our flag.......our pledge...... our national motto........or our way of life....I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other Great Canadian Freedom.......THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

My thoughts...
UGH... I do NOT agree with that guy... especially the tone of what he wrote!!!? And to use the word "we" (as in "we really don't care...") as if he is speaking for all Canadians is very irritating -- he certainly does NOT speak for ME!!!
One of the things that sets us apart from our neighbours south of the border and their "melting pot" ideology is our tolerance and acceptance of individuality and rights and personal freedoms, including cultural diversity!? Of course our country is primarily Christian, but I bet you won't find the majority of people (who are out there putting up Christmas trees and running around buying gifts) in church on Sunday (whereas I suspect that the majority of immigrants the author is referring to truly practice their religion and it is very important and meaningful to them). I'd hazard a guess that Jesus would not condone the kind of intolerance this author is promoting.
For many people, the "thee" in "we stand on guard for thee" is the God they believe in... for me, "we stand on guard for thee" means we guard our wonderful country... And guarding everyone’s rights and cultural values is an important part of what makes our country such a vibrant and interesting place.
If a person comes to this country and doesn't want to learn to speak english or french, fine... that is their choice and they will be confronted with the language barrier. On the other hand, I don't know any immigrants who do NOT want to learn the language -- it's just not always the easiest thing once you’re past the age of about 12... how many of us Canadian anglophones struggle with learning/speaking french and vice versa?!? And for most of us, it's not because we don't want to learn!
We have soooo many opportunities to learn and broaden our horizons from what the people from other countries and cultures can share with us. We are a culturally rich nation, and I love that about Canada. It was wonderful living in Montreal with all its multicultural celebrations and parades and ethnic foods and interesting people! How boring it would be if everyone were the same... imagine a country devoid of other cultures made up entirely of clones of the author of that editorial. Scary.
Apart from the first nations people, we are all descended from immigrants (as the author of that editorial pointed out) and I will strive to always be respectful of the cultures of the more recent immigrants to our country! I would hope our government and citizens would never *force* the majority language or religion on anyone. I am grateful for the opportunity to be exposed to different cultures, have the opportunity to learn their language (for example, at my son’s school, two individuals who recently immigrated to Canada come in and teach Japanese and Spanish to a group of students eager to learn those languages), eat their cuisine, learn about their religion, and live and grow in harmony with them.
Why breed intolerance and conflict???
