Has it really been a whole year?!?!

Just stopping in to say hi to all my old cyberfriends  Smile  Can't believe it's been a year since I last posted here - where does the time go?!  Not enough time for posting and keeping up on here, that's for sure!  But "HI!!!" to any of my friends who still hang out here. I hope all is well!  Stay warm!

Back....!

Hey all my wonderful cyber-friends... I'm baaaaaaaaaack!!!  At least I think I am...      ...the past several months have been crazy, but the load is a bit lighter now and I can breathe again.

I received an email today from a friend of mine asking everyone to keep a very special person who is battling cancer in their prayers.  Even if they don't know her personally, all Haligonians (for those of you not in NS, that's the term for people who live in Halifax  ) will know doubt have seen her name on the events board outside Reflections... Lulu LaRude is an incredibly beautiful and talented performer. Recently her doctors gave her two months to live... but she intends to beat this cancer into the ground and rise up shining.  Her courage and strength of spirit are truly inspirational.  I was having a crappy day today until I visited
Lulu's blog... after reading her words, all my petty complaints were reduced to nothing... I have so much to be thankful for (thank-you, Lulu, for opening my eyes to that reality when I really needed to see it).  On Sunday, Feb. 4th at 11 a.m. Halifax time (10 a.m. Toronto & New York time), please say a prayer for Lulu or send healing vibes her way... help her dream of a miracle become a reality.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend... stay warm!

You know things are bad when...

even your normally positive horoscope is telling you that your life sucks so bad that the only thing to do is go sit alone in a restaurant or bar and drown your sorrows!!!

Love, creativity, friendships - none seem to be going the way you'd like at this time, Susan. Friends and lovers are so preoccupied with their own troubles that they aren't good company, and the creative juices just aren't flowing. The best course of action for you to take today might be to go to a favorite club or restaurant, have lunch or drinks, and simply sit alone and listen to the conversations around you. This could raise your spirits. Try it!

Gee... and just when I was starting to feel a bit better about things and was seeing a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel!  Good thing I don't take those things too seriously.  The mountain of work is starting to shrink... whew!  And less than a month of classes left...   OMG, I cannot wait!

Some of the kids videos are now posted on You-Tube (those of you who don't use IE and those with Macs should be able to see them now by going there). The URL is http://www.youtube.com/rocknboyz.

Have a wonderful week!

Nothing new...

Just the same old work, work, and more work... just thought I should let y'all know I am in fact still alive!  I just have no life these days, sigh.   I'm just getting over some killer stomach bug (Norwalk virus... or whatever it's called, perhaps?) that knocked me flat for a few days... and even though I'm now even farther behind now, I just could not get into work mode!  So last night I procrastinated and threw together a couple of videos to update the media-player. Liam's doing great on the drums these days... you can see how much he loves them  .  Okay... gonna go try to get started on a report... as a good friend of mine says, "a job well-started is half-done" (or something like that!) and it's so true. Getting started is the hard part (right, Chris?!!). So later everyone... I hope you're all having a great weekend!

About time I posted something! (Warning -- picture-heavy!)

I updated my media player with a video of Liam on the guitar.  It's amazing how far he's come in the past couple of months on the guitar -- and he loves it!  But he still says he likes drums better...   He "made up" the song he's playing although Jesse and I both think it sounds awfully familiar -- anyone know what song it is, if it is already an actual song?!?  And check out his mouth while he's playing -- it's too funny!  Major case of "motor overflow" (the neuropsychology term for it)!

I also have two videos of them busking at the Halifax waterfront a few weeks ago (the weather was great here in September!). My friend, Paul (who happens to be an outstanding guitar player himself), took them a couple of times and joined in playing with them.

Soooo... life in the past couple of months has been mostly work, but I'll write about the other stuff... the fun stuff!

In mid-September, we went to a huge backyard bash at a friend's place, complete with stage and live music... it was the day the boys came back from Ontario and we went right from the airport to the party.  And they went up on stage and did a couple of songs... had a blast!  A photographer who was at the party sent me some pics the other day so here they are (Liam's so small you can't even see him behind the drums in these pics, but he's there!).

On September 23, I got invited to the Rolling Stones concert by my friend Paul -- he and some of his friends managed to get front row VIP tickets through advance ticket sales (I guess it pays to be in the music business!) and rented a limo and a house on the waterfront... and omg, what an amazing, fun night that was!! And it was probably made all the more memorable by the endless rain that soaked everyone and everything -- I was so on edge through the whole concert expecting one of the Stones to go up with a band and a blue flame at any moment (they had no protection from the rain... even all their electronic equipment was getting rained on    ). But then again, I imagine it would take more than a jolt of electricity to finish any of them off!

I have a whole new respect for the Stones! I dunno how many lives they've each got, but I'm sure they needed all of 'em given that Rock 'n Roll lifestyle... and now they must be close to my parents' age, and here they are on stage still and just giving 'er!!! Their energy is phenomenal! I always liked the Stones music, but was never what you'd call a huge fan... and if I'd had to pay for the concert tickets myself, I doubt I would have gone. But I can now say without a doubt that they are waaaaay better live than recorded. And next time, I would definitely pay to see them!!

Concert Pics

The stage was massive -- and impressive...
although I'm sure some shelter would've been much appreciated !

50,000 people were there - biggest concert in Halifax, ever

When we got home from the concert, we played guitar and sang and jammed until it was light out... awesome night!

Next morning... we weren't exactly in the best shape!

And finally. the kitten update...
7 weeks old now and as cute as ever!

It appears we have three males and one female.

"OMG... look at that  -  !'m a TOM-cat !!!"

They love this scratch-post hideaway thing that my friend Heather gave me... and they vie for position up on the penthouse platform...

"This is MY spot... so don't even think about it!"

"Haha... one down, two to go!"

"Ohhhh no... Oscar, are you okay?!?"

"I'll get y'all later with my big kicker I got here!"

When the penthouse loft is fully occupied, what better place to sleep than on top of the records!

We're keeping Oscar (who Jesse named after Oscar Wilde) and two of the others have new homes to go to in a couple of weeks... which leaves one male (the one on the penthouse platform in the last photo with his arm and leg around his brother!)... so if anyone in the NS area would like to give him a new, loving home, please let me know!

Jesse's new song...

Jesse's first real "recording" -- he wrote this song ("On My Mind") last week, lyrics, guitar, etc and he learned to use Cubase and recorded all the tracks... his first "real" attempt at recording.  He says there's still lots of things he needs to fix... his voice goes a bit flat in a couple of places, for example... but for a first attempt, I was amazed at what he did, especially considering he's only 14! It's great having kids who are soooo into music! I'm so lucky...

I am in shock... and soooo sad... :(((

I haven't been around much over the past few weeks while wading through an ocean of work... but tonight I decided to visit some of my cyber-friends' spaces and see what they've been up to lately.  At the top of my list was K.T. aka "King Tom", a wonderful man whose blog is always a great read... funny, informative, interesting, and always entertaining.  I felt honoured that K.T. took the time to read my blog and to leave his often humourous and thoughtful comments.  At 2:03 a.m. on September 12th, Tom left me his last comment... I just learned that he passed away in his sleep unexpectedly later that night. I'm at a loss for words as I type this through my tears. You will be missed by many, Tom. My heart goes out to Rose, and your family and friends.

Who me? Stressed?!?!

Anyone wanna come write a dozen 15-page psych reports for me; prepare lectures, course materials and exams for three university courses; take care of my completely overgrown one-acre disaster-area yard; and lend me $30,000?!?!!

Hmmm... wonder if I should go pick up one of those take-a-number machines to be prepared for the huge line-up...?!

Ooookay...  back to work... sigh...!

Look what joined our family last night...!

This is what happens when you put off getting the female kitten spayed
and she carves a hole in the window screen...
(and I'm a vet's daughter... for shame!
 )

The top one looks more like a puppy (or maybe some other kind of animal  )
but I'm pretty sure they're all kittens!

I love their colours!  Two look just like Jazz, one's a bit darker,
and given the colour of the fourth one, I now know who the father is  .
And he's beautiful! (Thank goodness it wasn't "Tigger",
the neighbourhood bully... not an attractive cat at all!)

Jazz - she's such a good mama

They look kind of like little rats right now   ...but I know they're gonna be the cutest things in a few weeks!

Anyone want a kitten in a couple of months?!?!

A perfect day

There's a sand-castle/sculpture competition every year at Clam Harbour beach in NS... and yesterday I finally made it out there... but not until it had started pouring rain!  But we went anyway... the beach was deserted... and it was nothing short of magical... warm and misty, big breakers... full of spirit and energy...

 sand sculptures all around...

We headed back to the city when it got dark, played guitar for a few hours then found a pub with a live band.  It was just one of those truly perfect days...

But I miss my boyz...    They're staying in Thunder Bay with their grandparents and flying home on Sept 9th.  I talked to them on the phone today and was glad to hear that they're having a good time.  Liam is so funny... he added a few more "Liamisms" to the collection.  Here's a few:

"Guess what we had for breakfast... Grandma made eggs bandaid with holiday sauce!" (eggs benedict with hollondaise sauce)

Having learned the first few bars of "Sweet Home Alabama" on the guitar... "Look what I can play now!  Sweet Home Dollarama!"

While watching TV... "But Jesse, you HAVE to watch Family Guy with me so I'll know when to laugh!"

Okay... time to go tackle the mountain of reports on my desk that aren't going to write themselves!

The end of a chapter...

The end of three years of the most intense relationship ever... such a deep soulful connection, such love... and such pain... incredible highs and horrible lows... always praying for a miracle.  Things really fell apart back in March, but there was no closure, no finality, and somehow there was still some hope... but now after seeing her in Montreal and talking about it all, it's clear that it must end... no more roller-coaster... and it hurts all over again.

One foot in front of the other... reconstructing my life without her... here I go... a new chapter begins...!

Yes, cyber-friends, I am alive...!

For the past month I've been swallowed up by my own private personal nightmare... part of which involves fixing up a house in the hopes that it will sell... I'm still alive, just not online much

I am so proud of my boys! Remember that homeless family we met in Cambodia?

La, Liam, and La's older brother

Well on Saturday and Sunday Jesse and Liam went busking to try to make money to help them. Jesse conquered his fear and actually sang (which made a huge difference in the number of people throwing money in!) and he played until he had blisters on his fingers!

Anyway, we just finished counting the money and rolling all the coins, and they made $190!!! I am sooo happy... that's enough for a place to live and food for a month for La and his family! And given that the rainy season is starting there now, I'm guessing that the timing couldn't be better.

The boys plan to do a lot more "busking for La" this summer so I think we are well on our way to being able to really help this family

Not the greatest pics (Jesse looks like he's scowling)... but here they are:

I also got a video of Jesse playing a song he wrote called "Make believe" (and another one of him doing "Holiday") -- the quality isn't the greatest b/c I had a playground full of kids right behind me AND I had to sacrifice quality for file size. But you can see them by clicking on the links below:

Cambodia photos now posted... and I have a new msn space

The photos of the last part of our trip -- our four wonderful days in Cambodia -- are now posted (3 months after the fact, but better late than never, right?!).

I think my space might be getting a wee bit bogged down with all the stuff on it -- I've noticed that it takes forever to load and some people can't get it to load at all!  Soooo... I created a new space (just for all the things related to our trip so far). I've only copied the Cambodia photos over at this point.

So, if you're having problems seeing the photos in this space, you can get to the new space, by putting a "2" after "indig0" in the address bar (http://indig02.spaces.msn.com).

I'll be writing a blog entry about the last part of our trip too -- does anyone actually read those, lol?!  Doesn't matter... they're for my own records too!

Wishing you all a great week! (It's *finally* stopped raining... this is good!!!)

Peace,
